About

Skratch Publishing

If you're reading this, you're off to a great start!

Skratch Publishing Inc. is an innovative Vancouver-based social venture that puts reading first. Instead of launching with a catalogue of books, Skratch has chosen to first focus on improving children's reading skills and study habits by offering SkratchTrack, our unique educational website.

With a fantastic team of artists, designers and programmers behind us we are able to offer you and your children unparalleled online products that simply don't exist anywhere else. Our belief is that once you and your children try out SkratchTrack, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!

We are a family owned and operated company with a lot of heart and a lot of ideas on how to keep your kids on track when it comes to reading, their education, and their futures.

Our company philosophy revolves around the power and importance of the written word, and reading as a cornerstone of children's education. We also know that parental involvement increases a child's learning potential. These beliefs are at the heart of every one of our products and services.

At Skratch Publishing, Reading is the Mission.

David Tilgner

President, Founder

David Tilgner is the President and Founder of Skratch Publishing Inc. He transformed a decade long career in children's animation and a hobby in writing kids' books into a company that has developed fun new ways to read and learn.

He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with his wife Jamie and their son Sam, who was born at the same time Skratch Publishing was launched!

His favourite kids' book is Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and its follow-up, Through the Looking Glass. Why? Because it's twisted, absurd, and doing the voices is really fun.

Jamie Roots

Co-Founder, Editor

Jamie Roots is a Registered Nurse and Co-Founder of Skratch Publishing Inc. She and her husband David had their first child in October, 2009 and have already started the ritual of storytime with him! Her favourite children's books are the Serendipity Series written by Stephen Cosgrove, because they have fantastic characters and there is a lesson at the end of each story.

Elle Skinner

Illustrator

Elle Skinner is a freelance illustrator and comic artist who lives in San Francisco, California. She has a cat named Scribble, a cactus named Alfie, and hands that cannot sit still. When not drawing (which is lots and lots of the time) she's usually knitting, baking, making jewelry, or working in the garden. Her favorite children's book is Harold and the Purple Crayon. Why? Because she still wonders what worlds are hiding inside an empty page. You can see Elle's full portfolio @ Mysky.net!

Beth Gonzalez

Artist

Beth Gonzalez is a freelance visual development artist and illustrator. She and her animator husband Marcos live in Vancouver, British Columbia with their cat named Squeak. Beth’s favorite children’s book is The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Why? Because it’s really scary and Peter gets a second chance. Also, the illustrations are awesome.
