Since I'm the first one writing in here, I'm going to lay it out there: Alice in Wonderland. It is the most bizarre train of thought piece of work ever, and if you read it out loud it's even better! But I'm willing to hear arguments...

For older kids it has to be "the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Such amazing sense of escapism (is that a word?).
For little ones, "the Belly Button Book" - my kids still call their belly buttons bee-bo's...
